Recommended Posts

TEHRAN- (IranSportsPress.com): Perspolis Football Club is looking for a new head coach, after Afshin Ghotbi decided not to renew his contract with the Iranian champions.

The news was announced by Habib Kashani, the managing director of Perspolis on Friday. "Our discussions with Mr Ghotbi were not fruitful, and he has insisted on leaving the club. Ghotbi is yet to officially announce his decision, but we are certain he will not re-new his contract" said Kashani.

He added "We will start looking for a new coach on Saturday. Hamid Estili is our first choice, and Mohamad Khakpour is our second choice."

It is believed that Ghotbi has even packed his belongings and will leave Iran soon.

Afshin Ghotbi joined Perspolis at the beginning of the season, and promised to win the championship in his first year. He soon became a huge favourite with the fans, and was also in contention to become the head coach of Team Melli, before Ali Daei was surprisingly picked for the job instead. Hamid Estili, who was Ghotbi's assistant coach, is now expected to step up and lead Perspolis next season.

Well it's become a trend in IPL that once a team achieves something great or becomes champions, next season the team gets all raped and all worthy players/managers/Coaches... leave the team, thus embarrassing us in ACL, I mean look at Esteghlal how as soon as they clinched the Championship their best players were transfered to other teams, they failed to buy decent players, and finally QN gooz fcuked it all up and prevented them from going to ACL, then look at Saipa, as soon as they won IPL all their great players left the team and they did not even bother signing any worthy replacement players. a few years back same shoot happened to Foolad of Ahwaz and we all saw he the very next season they were relegated to First division league :bandana: , and prior to them same scenario happened to Zobahan! :bandana: :bandana: :bandana:

Further flashback:

just prior to WC 98 they would arrange a conspiratory preparation match against AS Roma, thus getting thrashed by the almighty Roma, consequently an immediate riddance of such powerful and knowledgeable coach "Tomislav Ivic", and appointing Mr. Talebi...

Bottom line IRI does not wish happiness for the people of Iran and for some reason they actually are frightened by big soccer achievements and huge victories!

My 2 cents...

Anyway Qotbi was too good for Iran's miserable state of football!

That's true. Why can't IRI just let Iran enjoy some success is soccer and some occasional big victories. They are in bad shape right now, but if a few things changed they could win a lot more games on a consistent basis.

Fans angry at Iranian national football coach

Ghotbi attended the endorsement ceremony of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's presidency on Monday.

Iranians are deeply hurt by this gesture, writing blogs and bombarding his Facebook page with nasty comments.

This guy located Ghotbi's apartment in Dubai and went to leave him a message:
