PROGRAMMING

Recommended Posts

Any programmers here??

Thought I should start a programming thread :)

Aside from the web stuff, I am able to program in Scheme(old language) and Java.

They've pretty much abandoned C++ in our University; I guess Java is a good replacement.

Oh ya, I know many of you are gamers; has anyone developed their own games?

I've pretty much nailed making games in Java namely in applets and I know it is not the best language to code games in. I'm planning on learning visual basic and C++ and I'm trying to get a job in Electronic Arts; they've got a studio close to where I live :)

Ya, EA is great! In my opinion, the top 2 game developers are EA and Capcom. I love EA's Medal of Honor series and have been a big fan of Capcom's Street Fighter and Resident Evil series. By the way, has anyone ever played Street Fighter #1???? That's the only one I've never played!

Lucky #$%#^$!!! :p

Ya, the Japanese always get the games first.

I was checking out Ebay yesterday and I found Street Fighter #1 :D

It's not the original version from the old Amiga machine, but a PC port. Oh well, at least I finally get to play it!

Why has your university abandoned C++ ? That is the sexy mother of coding isn't it? Weird

They used to teach C++ as early as first year. I didn't see it come up even in my 2nd year software engineering course. I might, however, see it this comming school year. I've taken courses in operating systems, and Java sucks at GUI (graphical user interface).

Here is a Merriam Webster Dictionary I have written. It will do spelling, synonyms, contrast word. You need to be connected to Internet for it to work.

Download all files here: sorry stupid website won’t let you download files bigger than 700k. And save them in a folder. Say: C:\M-W. I will use this folder name later

http://www.freewebs.com/pnkpntr/m-w.part01.rar

http://www.freewebs.com/pnkpntr/m-w.part02.rar

http://www.freewebs.com/pnkpntr/m-w.part03.rar

http://www.freewebs.com/pnkpntr/m-w.part04.rar

http://www.freewebs.com/pnkpntr/m-w.part05.rar

Download/Install his unpacking (WinRar) utility from here

http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar34b6.exe

Once you have installed winrar. Go to C:\M-W and double click on m-w.part01.rar. This will unpack all files and produce an exe in the same folder called m-w.exe That file “m-w.exe” is you Merriam Webster Dictionary.

I was right; we're doing some hardware & C programming this term, and Learning C++ next term for the operating systems course :)
