Worst and Best Adaptations?

Recommended Posts

for me the worst adaptation of a book to a movie was Hannibal, i was shocked at how terrile the ending (and the film) actually was compared to the book, they totally changed it from the sensuallity of the book and basically killed it! :punishing_wft:

So whats your :diablo: and your :clap2: ...?

I'm usually not a big fan of filmatisation of books but I gotta give it to Peter Jackson who managed to do the almost impossible! His adaptation of the Tolkien trilogy was as great as it can be! it’s a complex epic and mythology which he has managed to summarise and materialise really well!

Another great one is the ”Shawshank Redemption” based on the Stephen King novella with a great manuscript and perfect casting! the same with King's "Secret Window"!

The best adaptation of an Iranian book is the legendary TV-series of Dayi jaan Napoleon! for staying true the original plot and for an impeccable casting!

Lame ones are far too many to mention! But one is Stephen King's Dreamcatcher!

Maybe my favourite adaptation was "Silence of the Lambs" from the book by T.Harris.

However, in general i think it's hard to judge TV/Cinematic adaptations, as the orginal printed media is so open to interpretation that any filmed equivalent is not gonna to meet anyones expectations.

they shouldnt be called adaptations, they should be called re-writes!!!

i think im gonna include 'remakes' into the topic!

It has to be without a doubt the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I am a person that reads books constantly and am very judgemental when it comes to a book becoming a movie.

As pourya said, Jackson did the impossible and managed to do this book to movie flawlessly.

There is also an Australian book called "Looking for Alibrandi" and i really loved the movie version as well.

I have to agree with the Lords of the Rings, I mean, sure Jackson took away some stories of the book, but it had to be done. But the way he captured the spririt of the books, that was amazing! My hats off for him! He totally rocks :punk::punk::punk:
