well we have a love poetry thread but we don't have any threads where u can just post any type of poems

so here's one that i really like:

Do Not Stand at my Grave and Weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep

I am not there; I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,

I am the diamond glints on snow,

I am the sun on ripened grain,

I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,

I am not there; I did not die.

A Birthday

by Christina Georgina Rossetti

My heart is like a singing bird

Whose nest is in a water'd shoot;

My heart is like an apple-tree

Whose boughs are bent with thickset fruit;

My heart is like a rainbow shell

That paddles in a halcyon sea;

My heart is gladder than all these

Because my love is come to me.

Raise me a dais of silk and down;

Hang it with vair and purple dyes;

Carve it in doves and pomegranates,

And peacocks with a hundred eyes;

Work it in gold and silver grapes,

In leaves and silver fleurs-de-lys;

Because the birthday of my life

Is come, my love is come to me.

"The Sorrow of Love" by William Butler Yeats

The brawling of a sparrow in the eaves,

The brilliant moon and all the milky sky,

And all that famous harmony of leaves,

Had blotted out man's image and his cry.

A girl arose that had red mournful lips

And seemed the greatness of the world in tears,

Doomed like Odysseus and the labouring ships

And proud as Priam murdered with his peers;

Arose, and on the instant clamorous eaves,

A climbing moon upon an empty sky,

And all that lamentation of the leaves,

Could but compose man's image and his cry.

"When You are Old" by W. B. Yeats again.

When you are old and gray and full of sleep

And nodding by the fire, take down this book,

And slowly read, and dream of the soft look

Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,

And loved your beauty with love false or true;

But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,

And loved the sorrows of your changing face.

And bending down beside the glowing bars,

Murmur, a little sadly, how love fled

And paced upon the mountains overhead,

And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

Catch A Rainbow

IF I COULD CATCH A RAINBOW

I WOULD DO IT JUST FOR YOU

AND SHARE WITH YOU ITS BEAUTY

ON THE DAYS YOU'RE FEELING BLUE.....

IF I COULD BUILD A MOUNTAIN

YOU COULD CALL YOUR VERY OWN

A PLACE TO FIND SERENITY

A PLACE TO BE ALONE

IF I COULD TAKE YOUR TROUBLES

I WOULD TOSS THEM IN THE SEA....

BUT ALL THESE THINGS I'M FINDING ARE IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME....

I CANNOT BUILD A MOUNTAIN

OR CATCH A RAINBOW FAIR

BUT LET ME BE WHAT I KNOW BEST

A FRIEND THAT'S ALWAYS THERE....

I'll wait

i can't explain my feelings for you

it's just too much to say,

but all i do is think of you day after day...

you don't understand how much i wish

that you could be just mine,

and maybe it will happen

it might just take some time...

i don't know how or why

my feelings are so very strong

but i do know that

in my arms is where you belong...

i know i've only known you

for just a little while

but ever since i met you,

i can only think of your beautiful smile...

i wish you would look me in my eyes

and say you want me, too

but until then- i just want you to know

i will wait for you

The child lay

In the starlit night

Safe in the glow of his Donald Duck light

How strange to choose to take a life

How strange to choose to kill a child

Hoover, Blaupunkt, Nissan Jeep

Nike, Addidas, Lacoste and cheaper brands

Cadillac, Amtrak, gasoline, diesel

Our standard of living, could this be a reason

That we would choose to kill the child

That we would choose to kill the child

__________

Allah, Jehovah, Buddah, Christ

Confucius and Kali and reds, beans and rice

Goujons of sole, ris de veau, ham hocks

Lox bagels and bones and commandments in stone

The Bible, Koran, Shinto, Islam

Prosciutto, risotto, falafel and ham

Is it dogma, doughnuts, ridicule faith

Fear of the dark, or shame or disgrace

That we would choose to kill the child

That we would choose to kill the child

__________

It's cold in the desert

And the space is too big

The rope is too short

And the walls are too thick

I will show you no weakness

I will mock you in song

Berate and deride you

Belittle and chide you

Beat you with sticks

And bulldoze your home

You can watch my triumphant procession to Rome

Best seat in the house

Up there on the cross

Is it anger or envy, profit or loss

That we would choose to kill the child

That we would choose to kill the child

__________

Take this child and hold him closely

Keep him safe from the holy reign of terror

Take this child hold him closely

Take this child to the moral high ground

Where he can look down on the bigots and bully boys

Slugging it out in the yard

'BURNT KABOB'

By: Jalalu'ddin Rumi

Last year, I admired wines. This,

I'm wandering inside the red world.

Last year, I gazed at the fire.

This year I'm a burnt kabob.

Thirst drove me down to the water

where I drank the moon's reflection.

Now I am a lion staring up totally

lost in love with the thing itself.

Don't ask questions about longing.

Look in my face.

Soul drunk, body ruined, these two

sit helpless in a wrecked wagon.

Neither knows how to fix it.

And my heart, I'd say it was more

like a donkey sunk in a mudhole,

struggling and miring deeper.

But listen to me: for one moment,

quit being sad. Hear blessings

dropping their blossoms

around you. God

A few Rumi Quotes I stumbled across, i cant find the entire poems so il post the ones i like :D

“The minute I heard my first love story I started looking for you, not knowing how blind that was. Lovers don't finally meet somewhere. They're in each other all along.”

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”

“All day I think about it, then at night I say it. Where did I come from, and what am I supposed to be doing? I have no idea. My soul is from elsewhere, I'm sure of that, and I intend to end up there.”

“When I am with you, we stay up all night.

When you're not here, I can't go to sleep.

Praise God for those two insomnias!

And the difference between them.”

"Face of Melinda" by Mikael Akerfeldt

By the turnstile beckons a damsel fair

The face of Melinda neath blackened hair

No joy would flicker in her eyes

Brooding sadness came to a rise

Words would falter to atone

Failure had passed the stepping stone

She had sworn her vows to another

This is when no-one will bother

And conceded pain in crumbling mirth

A harlot of God upon the earth

Found where she sacrificed her ways

That hollow love in her face

Still I plotted to have her back

The contentment that would fill the crack

My soul released a fluttering sigh

This day fell, the darkness nigh

I took her by the hand to say

All faith forever has been washed away

I returned for you in great dismay

Come with me, far away to stay

Endlessly gazing in nocturnal prime

She spoke of her vices and broke the rhyme

But baffled herself with the final line

My promise is made but my heart is thine

The Shadow Of Death

One shadowy night, terror arose in his dreams

Confirming that death was near

Waking up and sweating with fear

Little did he know that his dream was going to become a reality

A knock at his door leaves him startled

As he reaches out and opens it, he drops dead.

'My House is Cloudy

the entire earth is cloudy.

Above the narrow pass, the shattered and desolate and drunken

wind whirls downward.

The entire world is desolated by it

so are my senses!

Oh, piper who has lost the road entranced by the melody of the flute,

where are you?

My house is cloudy but

the cloud is on the verge of weeping.

In the memory of my bright days that slipped through my fingers,

I cast a look upon my sun on the threshold of the ocean

and the entire world is desolated and shattered by the wind

and on the road, the piper continues to play his flute,

in this cloud-filled world

his own path stretching out before him'

Standing all by myself I stare at the infinite sky

Watching my entire life just passing me by

Too scared to leave, too frightened to stay

How do I get through one more cloudy day

This is not at all the life I had planned

Mapped out with directions, compass in hand

Instead I am on the road that has no end

Miserable inside, yet I go on and pretend

Since you have been gone, I am trapped in this pain

Misery keeps following me again and again

Trying to realize where have I gone wrong

Who was I once and what I have become

This book of sorrow is stuck on one page

No matter how hard I run, I breathe in the same cage

Sometimes it seems as million years have passed me by

Waiting like a lonely moon and crying with the infinite sky

Emptiness wonders how much more can I take

Don't know what is ahead but its one more mistake

But through it all I still keep walking on

Following me, the Darkness keeps stalking on

Chasing your shadow I keep walking on this endless road

Loneliness ahead, emptiness behind how long can I go on?

never say i love you if it isnt really there

never talk about feelings if you really don't care

never hold my hand, if you're gonna break my heart

never say you're gonna, if you don't plan to start

never look into my eyes and all you do is lie

never say hello if you really mean goodbye

if you really mean forever, then please say you'll try

never say forever cause forever makes me cry
